About Me

I am a Specialist Teacher and Assessor holding a Level 7 qualification in Specific Learning Difficulties with current AMBDA and an APC.  I also have a current enhanced DBS check.

I have over twenty years teaching experience and am passionate about helping those who learn differently.  I have been working in the field of dyslexia and specific learning difficulties since 2014.  As a parent of a dyslexic child, I have a genuine understanding of the challenges and opportunities that this learning difference presents.

About a screening assessment

A brief outline of the screening process is as follows:

  • A short questionnaire and consent form must be completed and returned before the assessment takes place

  • The assessments are conducted in a relaxed and supportive environment

  • Currently assessments take place on Fridays, during term time only, at Bell House in Dulwich

  • Assessments last around 45 minutes on average but can last up to one hour

  • A series of short literacy and cognitive tasks will be administered during the assessment

  • Payment is requested at the time of booking a screening assessment to guarantee your appointment

  • A brief report will be provided within 7 days outlining the learners profile together with some general recommendations and suggestions for further action

Full Diagnostic Assessment

  • A full diagnostic assessment investigates your child's profile in more depth than a screening assessment.

  • Prior to the assessment, background information is requested from you (parent) and your child's school to establish the nature and extent of their difficulties.

  • A selection of standardised assessments will be administered.

  • A full diagnostic assessment usually takes 2-3 hours.

  • Assessments will gather information on underlying ability, cognitive processing ability and core skills such as reading, spelling and writing.

  • Assessment information is collated to provide a formal report.

  • The report will contain all the assessment results, a clear diagnosis where the evidence supports this and recommendations to address any difficulties identified.
